Canine hydrotherapy pool

Charney Kennels and the Grooming Room are pleased to offer our valued clients an exciting new service. In December of this year we are opening a hydrotherapy pool. We feel that this will be an invaluable resource for the dogs in our care.

We have a purpose built luxurious log cabin built to house a octagonal heated hydrotherapy pool over 3 meters in diameter fitted with a sand filtration system and 3  jets to create a circular current for your dog to swim against.

Pool open days will be:

Hydrotherapy has been an area of great interest to us for some time as you may have gathered from the information on the rest of the website we are involved with breeding and showing and agility and the benefits of hydrotherapy for fitness and general wellbeing are enormous.

Of course Hydrotherapy is widely used to treat a number of conditions such as:

  • Arthritis – increases mobility and flexibility in the affected joints.
  • Skeletal or muscular disorders such as hip or elbow displaysia – swimming can help safely build and maintain muscle mass to support affected joints.
  • Spinal injuries – again swimming provides a non weight bearing form of exercise to strengthen the body gently and can also be useful retraining dogs to balance.
  • Pre and post operative conditions – the idea of using hydrotherapy  before planned veterinary surgery is very sensible, if you are planning to use hydrotherapy as part of your pets rehabilitation it means your pet will be relaxed in the pool before surgery and his or her’s general fitness will be improved before the stress of surgery and anaesthetics.
  • Recovery from multiple injuries including fractures, neurological and ligament damage

Hydrotherapy can be effective providing relief from pain, swelling and stiffness in the older dog and is great for weight loss in the obese dog in conjunction with a suitable diet.

Swimming exercises every muscle in the anatomy with no impact to the joints and bones. This means that exercise and recovery can start much earlier in the injured animal, hydrotherapy also increases circulation which in turn aids the healing process.

As detailed here are so many benefits to hydrotherapy and so many instances that it could help your dog, each of our dogs are different and will have different conditions and needs from hydrotherapy we plan to work following your veterinary surgeons recommendations.

All dogs are welcome at the hydrotherapy pool whether your reasons are for rehabilitation or for fitness, however we must have conformation form your vet that you’re animal is fit and well to swim
.

SWIMMING FOR DOGS THAT ARE STAYING AT THE KENNELS

For clients who would like to book a swim for their dogs when they are boarding at the kennels, you don’t need to miss out on the experience completely we will photograph your dog swimming and attach the pictures to your invoice on your collection.

Pool opening times are as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10am – 6pm
Thursday and Friday   10am – 8pm
Saturday  10am – 4pm
Sunday and Bank Holidays Closed

Hydrotherapy sessions are for 30 minutes and the price for each session will be £20

There will be a reduction in price for people bookings 10 or more sessions this will be £17.50 per session.

Dogs will be dried after swimming using a high pressure blaster dryer, this will leave them damp but not completely dry, and however clients may make use of the grooming room services.

Shampooing and blast dry after swimming will be £8.00

Shampooing, grooming and drying will be from £15.00 for small to medium dogs and £20.00 for large dogs.

Please allow approximately 30 minutes after the swim for your dog to be shampooed and blast dried and around an hour for shampooing, grooming and complete drying.

You will be able to watch your dog swim if you wish although we would appreciate you allowing us to do the first session alone as often the dog is distracted by the owners’ presence and safety is our main concern. We appreciate that in the case of an injured dog owners may feel anxious and wish to supervise treatment, we will treat all cases individually and arrange and organise the treatment together.
