The
Grooming Room offers professional dog
grooming courses for prospective dog groomers,
and is also a dog grooming salon.
Exciting
developments at 'The Grooming Room' training
centre for Professional Dog Groomers
New
short weekend courses at 'The Grooming
Room' beginning in February 2010 - course
dates for the weekend course are listed
after course information.
The
new courses take the format of 3 weekends
and would be ideal for students thinking
of starting their own dog grooming and
bathing service or even for dog owners
who would like to be able to groom their
own or friends pets!
Weekend
short course syllabus:
The
first weekend
The
practical element of the first weekend
will cover;
- Grooming
- Bathing
- Drying techniques
- Including instruction on nail trimming
and ear care
The
theory element will discuss areas such
as;
- What equipment to buy to set up
your business
- Information on how to set up a self-employed
business
- Advice on effective advertising
methods
- Information on organisations new
dog groomers may be interested in
joining and grooming guides that may
be useful
- Safety issues when handling dogs
in the grooming salon
The
following two weekends practically will
cover clipping and scissoring techniques
and there will be plenty of opportunities
to practice bathing, drying, grooming
and nail trimming.
As
this is a short intensive course the clipping
and scissoring will not be breed specific.
There
will also be demonstrations of popular
breeds for students to observe and make
notes on.
The
theory areas covered in the second and
third weekends will be;
- First aid in the grooming salon
- Methods of handling difficult dogs
- How to take client information and
create client records
- How to tackle neglected and matted
coats
- Pricing structure for your grooming
business
- Discussion on different ways of
running a grooming business to suit
your needs and lifestyle.
There
will also be an open forum at the end
of each day for students to ask the instructors
their individual questions regarding training
or their future plans.
These
new short course are suited to students
who are thinking of setting up a grooming,
bathing and general trimming service.
'Dog Washing' services have become increasingly
popular over the last few years and having
the added knowledge to provide basic trimming
and tidying for clients would be invaluable.
If
your aim is to set up a complete dog grooming
service the weekend course would be an
ideal way to start your training and you
could continue training with us during
the week on our professional dog grooming
courses. All necessary information on
weekday courses can be found on this website.
Weekday courses will provide you with
breed specific training. We normally advise
students need to train for 4 -6 weeks
to have the necessary experience to set
up their own dog grooming business, however
after completing the weekend course then
the time needed for further training may
be reduced to 2 - 4 weeks depending on
the individual's ability and confidence.
The
price for the weekend short dog grooming
course is £600
If
you would just like to learn how to provide
a bathing and drying service only then
you can attend just the first weekend
of the course for £200
Start
time for weekend courses is 10am and the
day will finish at 5pm with a 45 minute
lunch break.
